If I were to ask you to define the word Freedom without using the word Free to do it, could you? It would be very difficult. I know because I've tried. Even the Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines Freedom as, "The quality or state of being free."
Well that makes sense, so the definition of Freedom is to be Free. We can work with that. So if we think of Freedom in this light, then our definition would be to be Free in all we think, feel, and do. Right?
Okay, that narrows it down. Doesn't it?
But I would like to go a step further and ask you a couple of questions. How many of you have a full-time job? For most of you, the answer would be "Yes." Then my next question is... do you love going to your job everyday? Now, the answers begin to change. About 30% of you will say a resounding "Yes!" While the other 70% will, of course, say "No."
According to an article from the Huffington Post...
Just less than 30 percent of workers land their dream job, or work in some related field ("Dream job only," 2012).
That's a pretty sad figure for those of us that are still holding out on our dream job. And believe me, I'm still holding out on growing 10 more inches and playing alongside LeBron James. But I digress, that dream has come and gone.
Doing what you love everyday is essentially the same as being free. But if only 30% of the population is truly free doing what they love, then what are the rest of us supposed to do? The answer may surprise you...
Start a home business. More and more people are quitting their full-time jobs and working for themselves from the comfort of their own homes. This, my friends, is the true definition of being Free and here's why...
Reasons Why Owning a Home Business Will Set You Free
1. Personal Freedom
Once you get your home business up and running efficiently and nearly on autopilot, you will begin to enjoy the personal freedom it gives you. No longer are you a slave to the time clock, trading your time for money. Now, you control the time. Work when you want and how long you want. If you want to work all day, then do it. If you want to work for only a couple of hours a day, then do it. Owning a home business will give you the time to do the things you want to do - your personal freedom.
I want to make one thing clear, however. Beginning and running a home business is not all peaches and cream. There will be a lot of hard work at the beginning; sometimes so much that it will seem like you are a slave to your new business. The sacrifice is worth it in the long run, however.
2. Family Freedom
A home business will also give you the freedom and time you desire and need to spend with your family. According to a study conducted in 1998 by the National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA),...
Based on the data from 1998, both spouses were employed at least part-time in 51 percent of married couples with children, compared with 33 percent in 1976 ("Two working parent," 2000).
Because of market conditions and other financial stresses within the home, the numbers of both parents who work outside the home are on the rise. This can be a detriment for children. Research has shown that children where both parents work full-time outside of the home are at higher risk for emotional, social, and behavioral problems.
Owning a home business will give you the freedom to spend more time with your family and truly help the ones that matter in your life.
3. Creative Freedom
Since you are the sole owner of your home business, you also have the creative freedom to run the business the way you want. You don't need fit a certain mold that corporate America sometimes says we need to fit into, thus taking away your creative freedom.
4. Emotional Freedom
The 4th reason why owning a home business will set you free is for your emotional freedom. How many of you get that dreaded feeling every Sunday night before the new work week begins? Every person that I have talked to feels this kind of emotion. Owning a home business releases you from that nagging Sunday night feeling. Moreover, you don't have to deal with a boss micromanaging every aspect of your job, nor annoying co-workers. Why? Because you are the boss and, in some cases, the annoying co-worker.
5. Money and Tax Freedom
Probably the most important reason why owning a home business is true freedom has to do with money and tax freedom. I know of people that make over $30,000 per month from their home business. I guess you could say that with that kind of cash coming in each month, these people are financially free. Also, there are great tax advantages to owning a home business, such as tax write-offs. For instance, since my primary business has to do with writing, I get to write off a lot of my travel expenses because I take my laptop with me to... you guessed it... write.
Conclusion
In summary, the 5 reasons listed above are just a few of the many reasons why owning a home business will set you free. Please don't misunderstand me, however. I am not saying that having a job is bad. On the contrary, having a job is extremely important and good. What I am saying is that if you don't feel free to do the things you want and live the life of your dreams, then owning a home business is an alternative way to achieve those dreams that we lost from our childhood.
