5 Reasons Why Owning a Home Business Will Set You Free

If I were to ask you to define the word Freedom without using the word Free to do it, could you? It would be very difficult. I know because I've tried. Even the Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines Freedom as, "The quality or state of being free."
Well that makes sense, so the definition of Freedom is to be Free. We can work with that. So if we think of Freedom in this light, then our definition would be to be Free in all we think, feel, and do. Right?
Okay, that narrows it down. Doesn't it?
But I would like to go a step further and ask you a couple of questions. How many of you have a full-time job? For most of you, the answer would be "Yes." Then my next question is... do you love going to your job everyday? Now, the answers begin to change. About 30% of you will say a resounding "Yes!" While the other 70% will, of course, say "No."
According to an article from the Huffington Post...

Just less than 30 percent of workers land their dream job, or work in some related field ("Dream job only," 2012).

That's a pretty sad figure for those of us that are still holding out on our dream job. And believe me, I'm still holding out on growing 10 more inches and playing alongside LeBron James. But I digress, that dream has come and gone.
Doing what you love everyday is essentially the same as being free. But if only 30% of the population is truly free doing what they love, then what are the rest of us supposed to do? The answer may surprise you...
Start a home business. More and more people are quitting their full-time jobs and working for themselves from the comfort of their own homes. This, my friends, is the true definition of being Free and here's why...
Reasons Why Owning a Home Business Will Set You Free
1. Personal Freedom
Once you get your home business up and running efficiently and nearly on autopilot, you will begin to enjoy the personal freedom it gives you. No longer are you a slave to the time clock, trading your time for money. Now, you control the time. Work when you want and how long you want. If you want to work all day, then do it. If you want to work for only a couple of hours a day, then do it. Owning a home business will give you the time to do the things you want to do - your personal freedom.
I want to make one thing clear, however. Beginning and running a home business is not all peaches and cream. There will be a lot of hard work at the beginning; sometimes so much that it will seem like you are a slave to your new business. The sacrifice is worth it in the long run, however.
2. Family Freedom
A home business will also give you the freedom and time you desire and need to spend with your family. According to a study conducted in 1998 by the National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA),...

Based on the data from 1998, both spouses were employed at least part-time in 51 percent of married couples with children, compared with 33 percent in 1976 ("Two working parent," 2000).

Because of market conditions and other financial stresses within the home, the numbers of both parents who work outside the home are on the rise. This can be a detriment for children. Research has shown that children where both parents work full-time outside of the home are at higher risk for emotional, social, and behavioral problems.
Owning a home business will give you the freedom to spend more time with your family and truly help the ones that matter in your life.
3. Creative Freedom
Since you are the sole owner of your home business, you also have the creative freedom to run the business the way you want. You don't need fit a certain mold that corporate America sometimes says we need to fit into, thus taking away your creative freedom.
4. Emotional Freedom
The 4th reason why owning a home business will set you free is for your emotional freedom. How many of you get that dreaded feeling every Sunday night before the new work week begins? Every person that I have talked to feels this kind of emotion. Owning a home business releases you from that nagging Sunday night feeling. Moreover, you don't have to deal with a boss micromanaging every aspect of your job, nor annoying co-workers. Why? Because you are the boss and, in some cases, the annoying co-worker.
5. Money and Tax Freedom
Probably the most important reason why owning a home business is true freedom has to do with money and tax freedom. I know of people that make over $30,000 per month from their home business. I guess you could say that with that kind of cash coming in each month, these people are financially free. Also, there are great tax advantages to owning a home business, such as tax write-offs. For instance, since my primary business has to do with writing, I get to write off a lot of my travel expenses because I take my laptop with me to... you guessed it... write.
Conclusion
In summary, the 5 reasons listed above are just a few of the many reasons why owning a home business will set you free. Please don't misunderstand me, however. I am not saying that having a job is bad. On the contrary, having a job is extremely important and good. What I am saying is that if you don't feel free to do the things you want and live the life of your dreams, then owning a home business is an alternative way to achieve those dreams that we lost from our childhood.

Growing Aquaponics Into A Small Home-Based Business

The idea of starting a home-based business is increasing in popularity these days as more people seek to get out of the corporate rat-race. The idea of not having to leave behind the kids to head off to disgruntled jobs early in the morning and having a greater say and flexibility in your working hours, lifestyle and monetary rewards certainly makes home-based business appealing. Having said that, most people however may not know how to get started or where they can obtain more resources.
The first and most important step is probably to decide on a viable small home-based business plan. While researching and evaluating the various business opportunities, it is also important to consider if they match your interest, goals and desired lifestyle.
If you enjoy gardening, then here is a great suggestion. How about starting a small home-based organic farm? Organic chemical-free food products have been gaining popularity in recent years for their health benefits. So why not grow your own fresh organic vegetables for your family in the comfort of your home and even have excess to sell for a profit? That's killing two birds with one stone!
With the introduction of aquaponics, a revolutionary farming technology combining hydroponics and aquaculture, organic farming is easier than ever before. An aquaponics system is easy to set up and run, hence it is no longer as daunting as traditional soil-based organic farming. You do not have to be highly experienced to set up an aquaponics farm.
Aquaponics gardening is also not as labor intensive as soil-based farming. In fact, you can even get your kids to help out in the farm as the daily tasks, such as pruning the crops, feeding the fish and monitoring of water quality, are relatively simple. More importantly, you do not have to worry about weeds, soil pests or having to endure backaches from the bending actions of weeding.
Another advantage of setting up your own aquaponics farm is that it is relatively inexpensive. Unlike hydroponics or aquaculture, do not need expensive chemicals or filter systems. An aquaponics system is compact with a small space requirement, but high in productivity. Hence, you can start small right in your backyard before scaing it up as you become more confident.
If you are new to aquaponics or organic farming, there are many readily available resources and communities that you can tap on. This includes DIY guides to help you set up your own aquaponics system. Alternatively, you can also purchase ready-made aquaponics kits off-the-shelf.
Before setting up your aquaponics farm, it is also important that you consider the following. Firstly, you have to decide on the type of crops to grow. You will need to research on the types of crops available in your local market in order to understand the demand and competition. Can these crops be planted in your climate or do you need to set up a greenhouse? Next, you will also have to decide on the fish to rear. Is it going to be edible fish, such as trout or tilapia, or ornamental fish such as goldfish? Is there a local market or pet shop you can sell to? Finally, you will also need to consider about the location of your aquaponics farm. Is your backyard or garage big enough? Or do you need to rent an additional plot of land for this setup?
While the idea of setting up your own home-based business is appealing, it may not be an easy task. You will need to research and plan carefully before proceeding in order to ensure it is a profitable and viable venture.

Marketing Techniques for MLM

When I first started MLM the biggest problem I had was finding similar people. There are any number of ways that will help you to find your customers. I hope that you will be able to utilize these ideas in order to make your business thrive. Like any other business without customers there is no business.
Article Marketing - This type of marketing requires a person to write. A way around this, if you cannot write, is to go to a place like Fiverr or Elance to have an article written for you. You want to describe certain things about what your business is. This can be how to market, how to get started, how it works or even places to place ads. There are a lot of subjects that can be written about within MLM.
Free Ads - Free ads are simple to find now. Most of what we will be posting is in the business opportunity ads. These should give a little information to intrigue a person to check out what you are all about. In my case I use a video on my directed website. Normally with MLM you will be provided a page to use if you do not make you cannot make your own website.
Flyers - This is an oldie but a goodie. Make a flyer with your website or phone number. You do not have to have a lot of information again. Just provide enough to peak someone's interest. One way is to say something like, "This business opportunity could be your answer to freedom. Come and check out this video on whatever website you own." I like to use ones with tabs on them so that people can tear and take home with them. This is very important so that they remember what your site is called. You could also provide your phone number if you want to discuss your opportunity on a personal basis which could give you more repertoire.
Talking - This is one of the most underutilized tools that we have available to us. Not only is it free but it also is more personable. I would not advise coming right out and saying you have an opportunity. Start with a compliment about what they do, how their office looks, how much you like their flavor of coffee or how their discipline is something that you are looking for in your opportunity. Talk to people about how much they like their jobs, the person in the coffee line or the drive through window person. It might be hard at first but I bet you become more comfortable by the time you have done a few.
These are a few of many techniques to use in your MLM quest for finding prospects. If you have any questions or comments please leave them below and I will do the best I can to answer them.

Blackheads Treatment - What Exactly Are Blackheads And How To Control Them

Blackheads Treatment - What Exactly Are Blackheads And How To Control Them

Understanding blackheads treatment is essential so you can easily deal with this skin condition. They usually occur on the shoulders. They are different from those red bumps with pus that you see on your face. But whatever type of acne you have, you can control this skin condition by maintaining proper skin hygiene.
What are blackheads?
They are also called as open comedones. These comedones are follicles with wider opening and filled with sebum and dead cells. When these follicles are clogged with dead cells and they undergo chemical reaction, they cause melanin oxidation that lead to the black color of these open comedones.
They occur when your skin produces too much sebum that it clogs the pores. Upon exposure to air, the plugs of sebum harden. The oil under your skin pushes the plugged to the surface resulting in the appearance of blackheads.
Does diet cause acne?
Eating fatty foods does not cause acne to arise. Diet does not have anything to do with this skin condition. So, no matter how hard you restrict your diet, you still cannot achieve healthy, glowing skin.
How about dirt?
Dirt does not cause acne either. Therefore, scrubbing your skin is not an effective blackheads treatment. In fact, overcleaning your face can aggravate your skin condition and worsen your acne.
So, how do you take care of your skin to get rid of these blackheads?
To control your acne, you need to practice good skin care habits. But you must remember that there is no overnight cure for this type of skin condition. By having proper skin hygiene, you can achieve flawless skin and improve the health of the hair follicles on your face.
What can you do to control and eliminate blackheads?
1. Use mild soap.
According to dermatologists, the most effective blackheads treatment is to use a mild soap when cleaning your face. This removes excess oil and dead skin cells without irritating your skin.
2. Avoid oil-based makeup.
If you need to wear a makeup, you must stay away from using oil-based makeup as it encourages oil buildup inside the follicles. Instead, you must use water-based, non-comedogenic makeup.
3. Be patient.
You cannot treat blackheads overnight. It takes days, weeks and even months before you see an improvement on your face. When you see another set of blackheads on your face, do not squeeze it. Instead, wash it with a mild soap twice a day.
It is also a great idea to talk to your skin doctor about the blackheads treatment that suits you.

Defeating the Causes of Acne

Defeating the Causes of Acne

Causes of Acne
How do we fend off the causes of acne? There is no good time for a breakout, but they always seem to be the worst at the most inconvenient times. Use this advice to help you through those difficult days.
This article will teach you several ways to improve your skin's quality and combat the causes of acne. A primary factor when it comes to fighting the causes of acne, is examining your diet. Eating lots of junk food reduces the capacity of your body systems to resist infections. A healthier eating plan focuses on consuming a wide range of nutritious foods, including nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables. Try to limit your diet to lean meats. Also, cut excess sugar from your diet. Eating healthy foods will give your body all the nutrients it needs to perform as it should.
Improper Hydration
Staying hydrated is essential as well. Water is great at flushing the system. While sodas may be tasty, they are high in sugar and caffeine, and only quench your thirst for a short time. Sodas can wreak havoc as one of the causes of acne. These drinks are neither nutritionally satisfying nor hydrating. You should opt for drinking tons of water to keep your body well hydrated. If it is the lack of sugar in water that repels you from drinking it, have you considered making a glass of fresh juice? It is extremely simple to make fresh juice if you have a juicer and fresh fruits and vegetables. You'll get a lot more nutrition from freshly prepared juice than from bottled or frozen juice. If you need another reason to invest in a juicer, the juice will also make your skin healthier.
Harsh Chemicals
Avoid harsh chemicals when cleaning your skin. Harsh chemicals can dry out your skin and are some of the worst offenders when it comes to the causes of acne. Always try to look for natural, gentle cleansers that do not employ harsher chemicals. Have you considered tea tree oil?
Garlic, despite its smell, is a good acne solution. Garlic has natural antibiotic properties. Just crush a couple cloves of fresh garlic, and apply the minced garlic to affected areas. Do not get any of the garlic in or around your eyes. Although your skin may smart slightly when you apply it, the antibiotic properties of garlic will quickly attack the infection. Apply an application of garlic, and let your face steep in the oils; then, rinse it thoroughly and pat dry.
Poor Quality Products
In most cases, you get what you pay for. A couple extra bucks for a quality product - can save you from having to dish out cash to fix damage caused by a substandard product. A mask made from all natural ingredients like clay is an excellent way to firm up your skin. It also gets rid of your skin's extra oils. Be sure to rinse the mask off once it has dried, and then rinse your face well. Use a soft, absorbent towel to gently dry your face. If any residue from the mask remains on your skin, remove it with some witch hazel on a cotton ball.
Stress
The overall health of your skin can take a big hit from stress. Stress will weaken your general physical condition. It could make your skin more likely to succumb to an infection. Try to reduce your stress to have a better life and better looking skin.

Tea Tree Oil As a Treatment for Acne

Tea Tree Oil As a Treatment for Acne

Recent scientific research has shown that tea tree oil is possibly a very effective remedy against acne. Although one with a slower onset of action, patients who use it, report fewer side effects than those who use the standard chemical treatments. But what is tea tree oil?
It is a nearly colorless and clear essential oil with a bitter-fresh smell. It should not be confused with tea oil, the cooking oil from pressed seeds of the tea plant, not with tea oil plant. The tea tree is native to the coasts of New South Wales in Australia, where the Bundjalung people have been using it as a traditional medicine for centuries.
They inhale vapour from the oils from the crushed leaves to treat coughs and colds. They also sprinkle leaves on wounds, after which a poultice is applied. Also, tea tree leaves are soaked to make an infusion to treat sore throats or to be applied as skin treatment.
The use of the oil as such, as opposed to plant material, did not become commonplace until researcher Arthur Penfold published his first papers on its antimicrobial activity of this plant in the 1920s and 1930s. In evaluating its antimicrobial activity, tea tree oil was rated as ten times more active than phenol.
Most of the scientific studies on this oil however, are quite recent. They do support the use of this oil in skin care as well as for the treatment of various diseases and conditions. It appears to be effective against bacteria, viruses, fungal infections, mites and head lice. A 2008 study of showed that a tea tree oil preparation was more effective against head lice than permethrin, a popular pharmaceutical remedy. Some sources suggest beneficial medical properties when applied topically, including antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiseptic qualities. As an antifungal agent, it is very effective against different types of skin problems. Shampoo with 5% tea tree oil, for instance, is an effective treatment for dandruff. The antiseptic properties can help in the fight against skin blemishes such as acne. As a consequence, there is also numerous interesting application of tea tree oil in cosmetics.
The commercial oil industry was born after discovery of the medicinal properties by Penfold in the 1920s. It was produced from natural bush stands that produced oil with the appropriate chemotype. The plant material was cut by hand and often distilled on the spot. Production waned after 1945, as demand for the oil declined, presumably due to the development of chemical antibiotics. As part of the general rebirth of interest in natural products, commercial plantations were established again in the 1970s and 1980s. This led to mechanization and large-scale production of a consistent essential oil product.

The Benefits of Hiring a Personal Trainer

The Benefits of Hiring a Personal Trainer

If you want to get into topnotch physical shape, hiring a personal trainer can be a way to accomplish it. Let's face it; we all want to get into great shape. So, why don't we? Because it's too easy to slack; because we don't know what to do; and because we are masters of the art of procrastination. With the help of a professional, any of us can follow through and end up with a buff body.
Too Easy To Slack
Time to go to the gym! So what do we do? We decide we really should clean the oven, reorganize our bookshelf, and read just one more chapter in our novel. Then we'll head over to the gym to work out. Trouble is, that time often never comes. We keep finding one more thing to do, one more cookie to eat, and one more reason to not haul our flabby bodies over to the gym. If we hire a personal trainer, we'll have an appointment and will have to show up at the specific time. Because trainers are booked and paid for in advance, it would be a waste of money to not show up, not to mention being very rude.
We Don't Know What to Do
If we actually do get to the gym, we may wander around and not really know what to do to tone our bodies. If we aren't familiar with free weights or machines, we may use them incorrectly and end up injuring ourselves. We might try an aerobics class that is out of our league, get discouraged, and drop out. Our personal trainer will take our physical fitness level, our interests, and our goals into consideration and develop an individualized plan specifically tailored for us.
Masters of the Art of Procrastination
We'll sign up for a gym membership someday. We'll learn to pump iron next summer when we have more time. We'll start riding our bike when the weather turns nicer, when our kids are back in school, or when heck freezes over. Come on! We, who are masters at the art of procrastination, know that we're never going to truly get around to it unless we commit to something. Hiring a personal trainer is a commitment of time, energy, and money. Once we sign up, we'll actually show up and get into shape.
Getting our bodies toned up is good for us on a multitude of levels. We look better, feel better, are healthier, and glow with confidence. By hiring a personal trainer, we will stop procrastinating and actually do it. And we'll be glad we finally did.

The Three Types of Mobility Aid You Could Install in Your Home

Mobility Aid

For most people, the most important aspect of life many want to keep as they grow old is their independence, the ability to stay active and carry out day to day tasks without having to rely on anyone else. However, the older we are, the more likely we are to suffer injuries; even the slightest fall could lead onto a far longer road to recovery.
An issue that is often a complaint is back pain, a condition that has no quick fix and will gradually get worse with the more years that pass. It can become so bad in cases that even the simplest tasks around the home become agonizing, not exactly the perfect way to enjoy retirement after decades of working. A good way to keep these problems at bay are mobility aids, designed to take the pressure off your back and helping you maintain a trouble free life. Here are just some of the different types of mobility aids which could massively enhance your quality of life in your home.
Firstly, we have rise and recliner chairs, the perfect device to help keep you in complete comfort while you enjoy a spot of television, read the paper or perhaps even do a crossword. Powered by electric motors, the chair can move into a number of positions by using the control unit, which is usually found on the side. It's the perfect device for anyone who has difficulty getting in and out of a chair, moving the seating position to ensure that getting from a sitting to upright is a breeze.
Another is the walk in baths, allowing the user to get themselves clean without the agony of negotiating a pain free journey in and out of the bath. They work by incorporating a hinged door onto the side of the bath to allow walk in access, which is completely sealed once the user is inside to avoid a widespread leak.
Finally, we have stairlifts, by far the easiest and safest method of getting up and down a flight of stairs if your back pain causes you to be slightly uneasy on your feet. They are simple to use, just sit back and strap yourself in and use the control pad to ascend or descend.
These are just three mobility aids you could install to keep back pain at bay. If you would like to learn more or discuss these options, why not contact an expert today?

How to Buy a Non-Prescription Hearing Aid

Non-Prescription Hearing Aid

Auditory loss can be devastating. Benign tumors, birth defects, excessive ear wax, infections and fluid or damage in the inner ear or ear drum can be the culprits. Whatever the cause, buying a non-prescription hearing aid may just be the answer to your problems.
If you're suffering with auditory loss, the first step is to contact an audiologist or doctor to determine the reason for your loss. After this is done, it's entirely possible to obtain a hearing aid without a doctor's prescription.
1) Know Your Consumer Rights. There are several government agencies designed to protect the rights of consumers. There are numerous scam artists who will try to sell you an auditory product that is not going to be effective.
These agencies are geared to protect buyers. They do encourage consumers to be tested before purchasing, but you do have a choice not to have a medical exam.
2) Review State Laws. The government, as well as most states, has laws pertaining to the purchase of a hearing aid. These, again, are designed to protect the buyer. State law may make it mandatory for audiologists and specialists to have a license in order to sell them.
With the popularity and convenience of the Internet nowadays, there are special regulations regarding this venue. Some states make it illegal to buy them from mail-order companies. If you're seriously considering purchasing auditory aids without a prescription, you'll need to make sure you understand all of the specific laws that pertain to this issue.
3) Contact a Licensed Professional. Simply said, a licensed, trained professional has been greatly trained to not only evaluate your loss but to dispense the best treatment option.
Part of their job is to measure and adjust the auditory aid so it will be as comfortable as possible in your ear. These specialists can be found by checking online or in your telephone business directory.
4) Sign a Medical Waiver. The government also makes it mandatory for buyers over 18 to sign a medical examination waiver. This protects the buyer by indicating they have made an intelligent decision to forgo the medical evaluation. You can pick up the form from an auditory specialist, and it will be kept on file.
5) Choose the Right Hearing Aid. With today's technology, there are various styles and types. An auditory specialist will expertly be able to show you the different types and treatment options.
6) Get a Sales Contract. One more crucial requirement is that auditory specialists should always provide a sales contract before the purchase. This contract should have the service, refund and warranty policies included. Some states even require audiologists to give their clients at least a 30-day trial period. It's vital you take the time to read over the contract terms before buying.
Buying a hearing aid without a prescription is not hard to do. The rules and laws aren't difficult to understand. In other words, it's completely doable.

10 Things That Will Make You Stronger in Midlife

Make You Stronger in Midlife

Entering midlife can make you feel more vulnerable than you've ever felt and there is mounting scientific evidence that the lifestyle decisions you make in midlife can dramatically impact your health in your senior years. Here are some things that you can do to get on the right track.
1. Educate yourself about exercise and diet.
Crack a book or two to get a glimpse of what you're going to need to do to improve. The power of exercise and diet cannot be overstated. It is your responsibility to figure out what you need to know. When I am approached by the average, middle-aged novice in the gym, I can't help but sense the expectation that I should be able to explain everything that person needs to know in a short 2 - 5 minute talk. That is optimistic at best. It takes years to build a strong, healthy body and it can take a long time to explain how to do it. Start educating yourself as soon as possible and use multiple sources. The fitness industry is ripe with disinformation designed to separate you from your money. Don't believe everything you read, but read it nonetheless.
2. Build a working relationship with your doctor.
Most of us have a love / hate relationship with our doctors; we love to hate them. To make it through midlife and beyond, you will need help from people in the medical fields from time to time. One of the people you need to get to know is a competent doctor who you trust with your life. You need to have a working relationship with this doctor. That means he/she is someone with whom you can work to get to the bottom of your health issues. Liking each other is secondary to this.
3. Exercise with weights.
The effects of resistance training on older adults has been well documented. If you want to prevent major muscle atrophy and lower bone density in your senior years, it's time to start pushing some weight. You NEED to get clearance from your doctor before starting any exercise program and you NEED to educate yourself (#1 and #2). Most people underestimate how easy it is to get hurt doing weight lifting without proper training. Unfortunately, many of the trainers in commercial gyms are barely more than salespeople with a perfunctory understanding of weight training. The fact is that learning basic, compound movements with weights and doing these movements three times per week is the equivalent of the fountain of youth. You must find a way to do this.
4. Do some cardio.
Cardio work is second in importance to resistance training for midlifers, but it is still important. Adding 15 to 20 minutes of low impact cardio at the end of your workout can do wonders for your heart and help reduce body fat. Remember to use the cardio formula to find your target heart rate. 220 - your age = max heart rate. Target heart rate = max heart rate X 0.65. You can go higher than the target but stay under your max. That's why it's called MAX heart rate.
5. Stretch.
Stretching and mobility work can help keep you moving like a well oiled machine. If you are training two to three times per week, you are going to be sore. Make sure to take time after workouts to stretch and do mobility work on days off to increase blood flow and range of motion. Some of my associates even do light yoga workouts on their days away from lifting weights to stay limber and pain-free.
6. Eat right.
Controlling what you put in your mouth has to be one of the most difficult things you can do in midlife. Let's face it. You've probably been eating that way for decades and old habits are the hardest to break. Most of the fitness gurus recommend multiple meals every 3-4 hours with a good mix of macro-nutrients in each meal as the gold standard for a healthy diet. That simply means a little protein, carbohydrate, and fat in each meal. One of the recent changes has been the advent of organic food being better for us because of reduced exposure to chemicals. If you aren't eating right, you must change as soon as possible. If you can keep the good habits for at least six weeks, they will become permanent.
7. Supplement your diet with protein and creatine.
These two supplements have been around long enough and studied enough to safely state that they work. They can help you in the fight to keep muscle and functional strength. I don't recommend spending too much on supplements, but protein synthesis needs a hand as we age. Many diet texts state that at least 2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day is a good thing for active, healthy people in midlife.
8. Get enough sleep and rest.
Sleep is one of the three things we need to get stronger. We must train, eat, and sleep in order to grow. If any of the three are lacking, we don't grow like we should. While it's natural to feel like we need less sleep as we age, I assure you that while engaged in resistance training you will need every bit of eight hours sleep per night. You should treat this just like diet. You've been doing the same sleeping ritual for decades, but now you need to get eight hours per night while training. Find a way to make it happen for six weeks and it will become habit.
9. Quit smoking.
This is arguably the hardest habit to break. As amazing as it sounds there are still people around who don't believe smoking cigarettes will kill you in an accelerated and painful way. While I understand addiction (I'm a former smoker), there are a lot more cessation methods around today than there were a few years back. But nothing will work until you really want to stop. In the end, it's all up to you.
10. Drink less.
All things in moderation and a wise man knows his vices. There are some studies pointing to the health benefits of wine in moderation. Many health gurus say we shouldn't drink at all. I think we should weigh the consequences of our actions against the quality of our lives... and then have the glass of wine anyway.
In closing, this list is not exhaustive, but it contains the "Big Bang for the Buck" items that could make your golden years a lot better. Remember that one of the things everyone wants late in life is the ability to get around on their own or at least to be able to get up on their own. Make these changes and fight to remain mobile.

Closer Look at Human Ecosystem

Closer Look at Human Ecosystem

Multitude of microbes naturally inhabit our body. Their presence has a tremendous impact on both our health and illness. These living organisms are native residents of our internal ecosystem, but yet we don't know them that well. Why is that so? Well, mainly because these bacteria don't grow outside their host, us humans. Therefore, It's difficult to research and get to know them better.
Luckily, there was a remarkable evolvement in the abilities of modern microbiology to characterize microbes.Nowadays, one doesn't have to grow bacteria in the Petri dish to study it. New computational tools allow researchers to study microbiome (microbial ecosystem) by isolating and sequencing bacterial DNA.
One of such projects is known as Human Microbiome Project (HMP) focuses on characterizing human ecosystem. Researchers in the HMP are sampling and analyzing the genome of microbes from five sites on the human body: nasal passages, oral cavities, skin, gastrointestinal tract, and urogenital tract. This project and other studies like it are helping to unveil the ways in which these essential organisms influence our lives.
The results of these studies reveal that many microbial colonies are specific for certain body sites. Moreover, the microbiome is ever changing during our lifetime. A number of recent reports showed that microbiome of pregnant women goes through complete transformation during pregnancy. Each trimester has its own unique microbiome signature.
Amazingly, one of the dominant species in the vagina of pregnant woman is Lactobacillus johnsonii. This microbe is naturally found in the gut and helps us to digest milk. The researchers speculate that pregnancy encourages the bacteria to grow. And, during delivery, a baby might ingest some of the bacteria. This first exposure is what would eventually prepare the baby to digest breast milk.
The baby's ecosystem continues to grow during breast-feeding. Evidently, women's milk contains up to 600 species of bacteria. These healthy bacteria have a tremendously significant role in tutoring child's developing immune system. Under microbiome guidance, naive immune cells learn how to recognize self versus foreign stimuli. This ability allows our body to appropriately react to invading pathogens while controlling autoimmune response.
As some of you may have experienced personally, in the recent years, there was a significant increase in the prevalence of autoimmune conditions such as eczema, asthma, irritable bowel syndrome etc.Reduced exposure to microbes early in life is suggested to be one of the main mechanisms to account for this rise, commonly referred to as the "hygiene hypothesis". Our diet, high level of antibiotic use, and improved hygiene have an impact on reduction of microbial exposure. Research has suggested that children who take high doses of antibiotics are in greater risk of developing allergies and asthma.
So, what can we do to help these friendly microbes to survive? We can start by taking care of our gut bacteria. By avoiding consumption of refined sugars and processed food, we would significantly reduce stomach irritation. By taking probiotics especially when on antibiotic treatment and afterwards. Remember, that antibiotics kill "good" bacteria as well and it has to be replenished. Treatment of some autoimmune conditions with probiotics has shown some promising but also controversial results. But, because some of these results might be due to lack of proper study design, it is worth to give our allies a chance.
